The Gasflood device is a fully automated, modular core flooding system built to evaluate and optimize oil recovery under miscible and immiscible gas injection. The system achieves water flooding, gas flooding and WAG flooding. It measures unsteady state gas and liquid relative permeability, displacement efficiency, residual oil saturation post waterflood and incremental oil recovery and water production as a function of gas injection. It is also compatible for CO2 gas Injection. Horizontal and vertical flooding mechanisms can be studied with the system so as to simulate the gravity drainage. Results are useful for process optimization of gas injection and WAG schemes. It is also an ideal tool to evaluate at reservoir conditions the potential for impairment due to organic solids when depressurizing and blending fluid in situ. Typical configuration of a gasflood system includes injection pump, four fluid transfer vessels, pressure tapped coreholder, forward and backward injection facilities, confining pump, back pressure regulator, airbath, pressure measurement system, fraction collector, wet gasmeter and data acquisition system.
