The Frac-Eval apparatus is designed to test proppant crush, proppant conductivity and fracture conductivity at various closure pressures up to 20,000 psi and temperatures up to 177C (350F) while flowing fluid at various flow rates and pressure up to 1,000 psi. The system uses a standard API conductivity cell which features two steel platens driven by a hydraulic press to apply closure stress. The proppant pack is placed between two Ohio sandstone slabs between the two platens of the hydraulic load frame. A pre-heated fracturing fluid is then injected through the proppant pack at controlled flow rate and up to 1,000 psi. The differential pressure across the proppant pack is monitored in real time and permeability and conductivity of the proppant pack can be derived using Darcy ‘s law.
