The Steam flood is designed to perform steam flood displacements at reservoir conditions in order to enhance oil recovery through modifications of oil characteristics as viscosity, specific gravity, relative permeability and interfacial properties. Change in permeability,displacement efficiency, expected oil recovery with various steam flood criteria are then determined. It investigates the effects of temperature rise on viscosity reduction of heavy oil and consequently the production rate. The coreflood system is equipped with a steam generator for generating superheated steam at temperatures up to 325 °C and pressures up to 2,500 psi. The steam and hot water are injected into a confined core sample which has been restored to true reservoir saturations. Typical configuration of a steamflood system includes injection pump, three fluid transfer vessels, steam generator, coreholder, confining pump, back pressure regulator, airbath, pressure measurement system, oil recovery fraction collector, and data acquisition system.
