The automated linear x-ray scanning system is designed to measure liquid and/or gas in situ saturations of a core sample during flow experiments. The core sample is loaded into an x-ray transparent core holder at reservoir conditions of pressure and temperature and can be scanned in either vertical or horizontal orientation. The system consists of a computer controlled X-ray generator configurable at user-defined voltages and currents, a single linear X-ray detector to measure the x-ray beam absorption in the core and a movable slide assembly to position the generator along the core longitudinal axis. The unit can be integrated with existing recirculating flow systems such as the RPS 700.
