The EPS 700, Electrical Properties System at Overburden Pressure, is used for the measurement of rock resistivity for both fully and partially brine saturated core samples at overburden pressure. The system includes an hydrostatic electrical coreholder, with hand pump for confining pressure generation , a pore pressure control panel for core desaturation and a resistivity meter for 2 and 4 points core resistance measurement. The system can be configured for multi sample configurations.

Calibrated Electrical Resistivity Checkplugs

The check plugs are used to check and test the calibration of the resistivity meter. The set consists of two stainless steel check plugs with different resistance ranges. These calibration plugs are not primary standards and have been tested using customary testing methods.

Multi-Sample Capillary Pressure & Resistivity System

The PC/RI system allows for capillary pressure and resistivity index measurements by porous plate method on multiple core samples mounted in parallel. Tests are done at moderate temperature and overburden pressure. The set up determines the water saturation and resistivity of water saturated core samples at different capillary pressures in individual core holders. The drainage takes place while the plug is in a core holder under confining pressure. The drainage pressure is achieved by placing gas or oil under pressure on the inlet side of the core holder. A porous plate is placed at the lower end surface of the core to allow desaturation of the core. The amount of water produced is recorded in a volumetric burette placed to the outlet of the core holder. The capillary pressure is obtained by measuring the differential pressure between the inlet and outlet of the core sample while the electrical properties are measured by using a resistivity meter connected to the inlet and outlet of the core sample.

Complete system used for the determination of resistivity and formation factor of plug sized sample at ambient conditions. The system permits to measure the rock resistivity Ro and the brine resistivity Rw at different frequencies. The cell utilises a two and four electrode design. The platens contact the core end faces under a constant pneumatic pressure up to 6 bar. This minimises contact resistance artefacts which are often found where a screw or jack mechanism is used to load the sample onto the electrode platens. The cell is provided with a plastic cover box to minimise core saturation changes. The instrument also includes a dip conductivity probe and a becher to measure the brine resistivity. An LCR meter is used to monitor the core and brine resistance and capacitance.
